The N Broadway Express and W Broadway Local are two rapid transit services in the New York City Subway's B Division. Their route emblems, or "bullets", are colored yellow since they use the BMT Broadway Line in Manhattan. The N operates at all times while the W only operates on weekdays except nights. Both services use the entire BMT Astoria Line in Queens and the aforementioned BMT Broadway Line in Manhattan. The N also uses the BMT Fourth Avenue Line and the BMT Sea Beach Line in Brooklyn.
The full-time N operates between Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria, Queens and Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island, Brooklyn. On weekdays, the N runs express in Manhattan between 57th Street – 7th Avenue and Canal Street; on weekends, it makes all stops between those two stations. During days and evenings, the N runs over the Manhattan Bridge south side and runs express along Fourth Avenue. At night, it serves all stops along its entire route, using the Montague Street Tunnel to travel between Manhattan and Brooklyn. The weekday-only W is internally staffed and scheduled as part of the N, operating local to/from Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan. The first W trains begin north at 86th Street in Brooklyn on the BMT Sea Beach Line and the last W trains conclude service for the night by going back all the way there.
Limited rush hour N service operates via the BMT 63rd Street Line and the Second Avenue Subway to or from Third Avenue – 149th Street in the Hub of the South Bronx due to lack of track capacity and storage at Ditmars Boulevard.
