1998-2000Edit

6350-6359 were Orion VI buses built in 1998-2000. These ten diesel-electric hybrid low-floor prototype buses were part of NYC Transit's Clean Fuel Bus program. 6350-6353 were rejects from the New Jersey Transit order, but retained the interior. All of them have retired from NYCT service by 2005 and operated under Williamsburg Depot in MTA Bus until retirement in 2013.

They were originally ordered and built for MTA New York City Transit, but early May 2017, a few buses were transferred to MTA Bus Company to cover a bus shortage issue. These buses are expected to retire by 2018.

2006Edit

3500-3783 and 6690-6909 are 2006-07 Hybrid buses. The 3000 series are operated by MTA Bus Company and the 6000 series are operated by New York City Transit. However, as of 2017, a few 6000 buses were loaned to MTA bus a few times to adapt to ridership demands. This was the final order of Old Gens buses before the Next Gen buses.

One bus, 3563, has been converted to run on a conventional diesel engine to an automatic transmission by 2013. The bus has been evaluated in service to determine if it's feasible to convert other hybrid buses at MTA Bus Company. As the hybrids have aged, the expensive hybrid components have experienced a higher failure rate. MTA Bus Company routes also have conditions where the full potential of hybrids is not reached.
